How to make Valappu Vadai ? (Plantain Flower vadai )
Here is the direction to make Valappu Vadai in 30 minutes or less
Soak Channa dhal and Toor dhal for an hour and grind it in coarsely with green chillies .
First clean the florets, Banana flower(valappu) has many layers and rows of small flowers in which remove only the stamen and transparent skin (looks like onion skin) and discard them.
In kadai saute the flowers with one table spoon of oil in low flame.
When the flowers are fully cooked, remove from heat and set aside to cool in plate for about 8 to 10 minutes, grind flower (valappu) coarsely.
Mix the coarsely ground flower (valappu) to dhal mixture with finely chopped onions and coriander leaves,jeera,asafetida ,sombu (optional),Curry leaves and salt to taste .
Mix all the ingredients, make a small ball and pat it like a small circled patty.
Optional frying No 1: On the other hand heat the kadai about 2 to 3 cups of oil for deep frying.
When oil is ready for frying, slowly drop each patty in the oil and fry till golden brown in medium flame.
Optional baking No 2: If you are health conscious, bake the patty in oven, preheat 375* and bake about 15 to 20 minutes. (For 10 to 12 vadai in cookies sheet and spray vegetable oil if necessary),Valappu vadai , baked in oven taste the same as the fried once ,crispy on the outside and soft in the inside .
Serve Valappu Vadai for evening snack and side dish with coconut chutney.
Health notes: Vallappu (plantain flower) is good for uterus related problem.
